The Mother Load web series follows Carrie, a by-the-book first time parent, as she stumbles through the first year of her baby’s life. She finds comradery and support in her best friend, Astrid- a parent with two kids, who’s “embrace the chaos” philosophy often conflicts with Carrie’s drive to do everything right the first time. Surrounding Carrie and Astrid are a diverse group of friends and family, including: Andrew, Carrie’s even-keel husband and partner, and Kurt, Astrid’s well-meaning husband who is always ready to offer up his own peculiar blend of Star Wars-infused wisdom. Along the way, they encounter a variety of moms with their own methods and idiosyncrasies. Although they may disagree on the best way to raise children, they all have one thing in common. They’re just trying to do the best they can.
The Mother Load gives all parents, especially moms, an opportunity to see their story told in a way that captures their day to day triumphs and failures with humor, without sentimentalizing the tricky business of raising children while maintaining your sanity and your self. Because we are a web series, we have the ability to tackle controversial subjects, such as breastfeeding in public and home birth, that would ordinarily be difficult to explore on network television. Best of all, The Mother Load offers up its hilarity in bite-sized, five minute chunks- just short enough to enjoy while your kids are napping, or easily watched in the time it takes your toddler to unravel the toilet paper roll in your bathroom!
